Quinoa Recipes are Easy and Delicious!

As we get older, most of us make an effort to eat better. In my quest to eat healthier and provide more nutritious meals for my family, I ran across several quinoa recipes. While I tend to be rather adventurous in the kitchen, I was not sure about trying quinoa. Still, after seeing so many recipes and hearing so many people say how great it was, I decided to give cooking quinoa a try. Boy, am I glad I did! Since that time, my family enjoys quinoa at least several times a week.
It isn’t hard to eat quinoa regularly and still have a lot of variety in your diet. I like to think of quinoa as a blank canvas. It does a great job of taking on the flavor of any dish. I have used it in a hot breakfast cereal and as a healthy substitute for brown rice in casseroles. I will use it in place of breadcrumbs or oatmeal when I make meatloaf of turkey meatballs for my children. I’ve even made a desert with it that my kids love! Even my picky preschoolers (who can’t agree on anything when it comes to food) cheer when they hear quinoa is on the menu!
Not only is quinoa versatile and easy to prepare, it is also one of the healthiest foods that you can find! It is so healthy that NASA has researched quinoa as a potential crop for long term space missions that are manned.
An advantage of quinoa over grains is that it is very high in protein. It is considered a complete source of protein because it has the key amino acids that we need to survive. Of key importance is the presence of lysine. Lysine is very important in our bodies because it helps with cellular repair.
Whatever your tastes, you are sure to find quinoa recipes that you love. Try cooking quinoa today!
Making Your Own Fast Food

Fast food restaurants make quick and tasty food. This is just what they do. People go to fast food locations with the expectation of receiving fast and tasty food. The thing is, people can easily make fast and tasty food at home. You can cook up a nice grilled cheese, you could make a turkey or a ham sandwich, or you could fix a quick bowl of cereal. Of you want something more filling like a hamburger you could quickly and healthily cook up a nice tasty hamburger on a George Foreman grill in about 7 minutes. Then just add your toppings and eat it. There are also frozen meals you can buy from the grocery store and you can just throw them in the microwave for about 2-5 minutes depending on the meal and then it is done and ready to be eaten. This beats having to use your gas to drive to the fast food place, wait in line, and hope that your fast food comes out the way you want it. When making the food yourself at home, then you know you are getting something fresh and you know it is getting cooked thoroughly so that you have less chance of food poisoning. Plus, it is just healthier to eat a home cooked meal.
If you are worried about time, you could always prepare a few small meals and put them in the fridge so that you can grab it when you are hungry. You could make a few quick sandwiches, a few salads, a small snack tray of cheese cubes and pepperoni slices, or even veggie snacks with ranch dressing. Just open the fridge door and grab what you need. Or you can just continue visiting the fast food restaurant of your choice. I just figured that if you started making some quick meals at home instead it might save you some money as well as help your health.
If you still want to eat fast foods and save money at the same time, get Mcdonalds coupons and Kfc coupons to use at the restaurants.
The Detoxifying Health Benefits of Juicing
February 23, 2010 by GuestPoster · Leave a Comment
Making your own homemade juices is one of the best things you can do for your health. There is unique properties to juicing that you would not necessarily achieve as quickly by eating fruits and vegetables. However it is important to state that juicing should never take the place of eating fruits and vegetables but is something we should do in addition to eating a healthy diet.
The main thing that is lost when we juice is fiber. Fiber is extremely important to our health and is one of the main reasons we should not substitute juicing for eating fruits and vegetables. Although, with the loss of fiber there is something that we get in return, more nutrients and antioxidants. Inside fiber is antioxidants that we would not access simply by eating fruits and vegetables. Whereas a juicing machine breaks down and discards the fiber and pours forth these antioxidants into the juice.
This increase in nutrition is one of the main health benefits of juicing. In addition to this we use more fruits and vegetables to make one juice than we could possibly eat in one sitting. It usually requires about 4 oranges or 10 carrots for example to produce one glass of juice. As a result you end up with an extremely nutritious drink that far out ways the amount of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals you would achieve by eating a portion of fruits or vegetables.
The other main benefit of juicing is bio-availability. Because the tough fibers of fruits and vegetables are not present in the juice there is very little for the digestion to do. The nutrients are therefore rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream giving the digestive system and the body a rest – leaving the nutrients free to nourish and protect our cells. Very little is lost.
This juicing benefit of high bio-availability is especially beneficial for detoxification. The liver is not burdened with the digestive process and is free to use most of the antioxidants delivered by the juice solely for detoxification purposes. The antioxidants are converted into detoxifying enzymes that flush toxic heavy metals, harmful chemicals and carcinogens out of the body. To get the best out of this effect the juices recipes should be taken between meals or first thing in the morning before breakfast when the stomach is empty.
The juicing benefits of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, cabbage, spinach and collard greens are extra powerful for detoxification. Crucifers contain a variety of specific antioxidants that stimulate the liver to substantially increase its production of detoxifying enzymes. This is why research shows that people who consume the most cruciferous vegetables are even less likely to develop cancer than people who eat the least – even if these people still eat lots of other kinds of vegetables!
