Domestic Violence Charges

January 7, 2011 by Bob · Leave a Comment

One of the biggest deterrents to stopping the violence is the stupidity of the courts. Perhaps it is because most of the judges are men, perhaps it is because the defense lawyers are too good and the prosecution (legal aid) is ridiculous. Domestic violence charges must be taken seriously.

Lawyer: Client in abuse case is ‘not Hannibal Lechter’
But, how could a reasonable jury listen to the facts in the above case and find not guilty? The man beat the woman, caused her to be a paraplegic, and his lawyer is defending his actions. Now I know that is the job of the defense, but lets be honest folks, if the woman has a second rate lawyer and god knows there are a lot of them, will she get the justice she deserves.

I don’t care if she insulted him, if she burned his supper, if she refused sex, whatever; she does not deserve to be beaten, crippled, and left to rot in a nursing home. She deserves justice. Who is paying for the nursing home? Are there children involved? But the victim seldom gets justice because the courts have a way of turning things around and blaming the victim. Follow the money…. Who is paying for what… and what leg does the victim have to stand on?

I guess I am not just talking about the above scenario, I am talking about them all. Is the almighty dollar deciding who walks and who suffers? How many women who have fled an abuser and is homeless, has to settle for a third rate lawyer? How many women do not get their children back because they can not afford a good lawyer? How many children are forced to go and live with an abuser because the law did not protect them? Take the next step and press domestic violence charges now.

So many times it is the woman who is charged for leaving the man, or for taking her children to safety. The woman; who is not working and has no income because she needs to look after her baby, does not have many options. The woman; who has to flee for her own safety and now finds herself homeless because she is trying to protect herself and her child.

We need more than temporary shelters; we need a complete change to the present system. We need a safety net for victims of abuse that will protect them and help them get on their feet. They need affordable housing, legal protection, police protection, and support from the community.

We need to change the law, we need to raise awareness.

Is Alcohol and Depression Related?

August 9, 2010 by GuestPoster · Leave a Comment

People often misunderstood that a lot of mood swings with and odd behaviors are just part of ordinary life. They think that it is just normal for someone that just had a painful experience in life. They thought it is a usual stuff to those people who have just lost a close relative or a parent. Or they also have this idea that because this person just lost a job interview, which is the reason why this person plunged to heavy drinking and became an alcoholic. That’s way too wrong. That misconception has led to many problems that deep depression must be the reason behind it. This is why alcohol and depression must have a strong connection. Or so we think?

Alcohol with depression comes in an array of ways, but it does not always mean that the two subjects are always related. Alcoholism has been a major problem around the world. It has also been said that alcoholism has a deep connection to depression. It is believed that many depressed people have always succumbed to alcohol, and then become alcoholic. Because of depression, people drink a lot to forget their problems, thinking it will heal their heartaches. But they don’t realize that they are actually making their problems much worse.

Nevertheless, did you know that many depressed people are actually first-time drinkers? Studies show that because of a depressing moment in a person’s life, they will try drinking thinking that alcohol will help them recuperate their miseries. What they didn’t know is alcohol will just contribute to their misfortunes.

Alcohol affects both mind and body. Consuming the liquor while depressed, the mind may hallucinate and create more confusion that will cause a lot of trouble. It is why alcohol and depression are inter-connected and will always be until someone realizes that alcohol is not the way to solve your problems, that problems are just a part of life that needs to be solved properly.

Learn more about the interrelation between alcohol and depression over at my depression hurts.

Why Some Kids Should be Allowed to Own Airsoft Guns

August 3, 2010 by GuestPoster · Leave a Comment

Many parents refuse to get their kids airsoft guns because they are perceived as dangerous or inappropriate. To be honest, there is certainly an age at which kids should be forbidden from owning something like this; mainly, if they are under 12. It is interesting to know that you can legally start firing weapons at that age, so if that’s the case, what’s the problem in owning a replica firearm that only fires plastic pellets that are virtually harmless? With a little bit of training and education, any healthy human can learn to use an airsoft gun in a responsible and safe manner.

The amount of safety you can realize in airsoft is astounding. It’s one of the safest sports around, and you will find hundreds of times more injuries in a sport like football than airsoft. That’s because airsoft is not really a contact sport, in that players rarely touch each other directly. Sure, you are getting “contacted” by many small pellets, but the result from being hit is only a small sting, and you cannot sustain permanent or even mild injuries unless you are hit in the eye. That’s why you should always wear a mask, and as long as you do that, you will definitely be safe.

Airsoft is an amazing and fun sport that no one should be deprived of if they want to play. If a parent makes a judgment call that their child is not responsible enough to own this kind of product, that’s perfectly fine. But denying a responsible pre-teen or teenager this activity based on misinformation or ignorance is not right, and that is why all parents should look into the facts before coming to a solid conclusion. The happiness that the person will experience from engaging in this intense sport is worth the small amount of time it takes to do the research.

Treating Anxiety Attacks Needn’t Be Painful

July 27, 2010 by GuestPoster · Leave a Comment

Have you ever seen those films where all the mental patients are strapped to their beds and hidden behind big metal bars? Those barbaric scenes may have been enhanced for the movies but believe it or not, it was based on truth. They used to use shock therapy to “cure” people of their mental illnesses and some people were committed for simply going against a police officer! Luckily those days have gone and now you can tackle your anxiety in the comfort and safety of your own home. You don’t need to see a shrink, you don’t need to take endless pills and you certainly don’t need to feel any pain! Read on to find out how treating anxiety attacks isn’t as scary as you may think.

OK so the first thing that we need to do is to describe an anxiety attack. Some of you may not have had one before, may not know what one looks like or may just be unaware that you’ve had one because you didn’t know the signs. An anxiety attack usually comes about when there are high levels of anxiety or you are faced with your phobia. When this happens you start to feel panicky. Your chest becomes really tight and you find it difficult to breath. This only increases the panicky feeling and can make things so much worse. You start to feel dizzy, sick and your eyes go blurry. All the while you are unable to do anything about it because your body has taken over and is putting all of this upon you. This can last for as little as 3 minutes or as much as 30 minutes and you can have as many in a day as there is space for them.

Because the most common cause of anxiety attacks are phobias, its best to deal with these rather than deal with the attack itself. There are pills that your doctor can prescribe for the attacks but they simply remedy the problem rather than deal with the root cause. In order to deal with this cause you need to see a counselor. A counselor is trained to help you talk through your problems and see between the lines. They will help you to understand why you have these phobias and why they have come about. Because the mind us a very complex thing, phobias can be created from a stressful situation. A counselor will help you to talk about this and fully understand why it Happened. Once you have all this information, you can start to overcome your phobia and start treating panic attacks properly so you won’t have to suffer from them anymore.

Your fears and phobias wont go away on their own so you have to understand that counselors and doctors really do have your best interests at heart. We hope that you overcome your fears soon and that you can deal with the emotions that you’ll feel when your life is back to normal and you are happy once again.

Themes and Tips for Planning Wedding Receptions

May 19, 2010 by GuestPoster · Leave a Comment

Whether a couple chooses to have a large wedding reception or private party, the place should be a blend their own personalities and a theme. A great way to get started is for the couple to brainstorm things that interest them and connect them with a common theme. Themes that are really popular right now are beaches, Arabian nights, and Italian weddings. It really doesn’t matter what the theme is but it’s best that it represents both the bride and groom.

Planning a wedding can be stressful, but it’s important that even if you have a wedding planner that you prioritize so you can make sure you’re getting the most out of your time and budget. There are so many ways to curb costs at a wedding, and it would be a shame to miss out on these opportunities because you were ill informed. If you start to get stressed out a wedding planner is really worth it- they are familiar with all the things you’ll need for your wedding and have recommendations. If you don’t have enough money to take on this kind of expense, delegate tasks to your wedding party. If you’re nervous about some members getting too involved, there are lots of tasks that you can assign where they’ll have to do it your way. Centerpieces are a great example of this. Homemade centerpieces are rising as a popular way to save money- just choose the kind you want, make an example, and then teach someone else to do it for you. It’s a great way to save time and make others feel included in your special day!

Although it’s easy to become overwhelmed, make sure you don’t forget the little things. Table arrangement are example of something that could easily be overlooked as a mundane and unimportant aspect- but it can change the whole mood of the reception! Oval tables suggest sophistication and elegance, while clusters of tables set people up for interaction. If you don’t want to figure it out all yourself, Houston wedding venues are notorious for being extremely accommodating to their brides. The Pelazio, Magnolia Hotel, The Bell Tower on 34th, and the Four Season are popular wedding venues in Houston.

So What is a Dating Club Anyway?

April 22, 2010 by GuestPoster · Leave a Comment

I have been writing about relationships, dating and romance for a while now and I frequently encounter the term “Dating Club”.  I found it used even more frequently in recent months and I just couldn’t quite get what the difference was between a regular dating website and a dating club.

After a little research I began to see a pattern of differences, which although not dramatic, will impact both how you use the service, and what kind of outcome you get from it.

At first I thought that the differences might be in platform, services or process and in a sense there are some, but the main difference is around purpose.  Let’s take a step back and look at the big picture for a minute.

Online dating sites can be divided into general and niche.  The niche dating sites focus on a specific demographic, situation, preference or whatever.  These niche sites on the surface look very similar to a dating club.  As a matter of fact they look so much like a dating club that some niche online dating services started calling themselves dating clubs in error and causing much of the confusion.

A dating club relieves the pressure of dating.  Granted, there are like minded people there for a purpose, but they kind of just mingle and mill about and stroll around, to use physical world analogies.  There is no rigorous process to contact someone or anything like that.  They resemble more the social dating sites we currently have popping up into the scene.

Another factor is that they typically are geographically focused.  Hence you would find the Christian Dating Club of Chicago, versus just a general “all over the world” Christian dating club.  In a dating club you can take the “milling around” into the physical world and sometimes they have local events and such.  The best way to put it is that it’s a cross between a niche online dating site, and a local dating service agency.

I hope I helped clarify, if not, you can find more articles and commentary at OnlineDatingVille.com

Choosing CZ Rings For An Engagement

February 15, 2010 by GuestPoster · Leave a Comment

For many young people the day they get married is the best of there lives so far and many girls dream of the day when a man will get down on one knee and pop the question. When that happens they hope they will be shown a beautiful gold ring set with a huge diamond that they can show off to all their friends to prove how much their man loves them.

Unfortunately, these days not all of us can afford to blow a fortune on a ring when there are so many other expenses that need to be considered when a wedding is coming up. Its often not the case that the brides parents are going to pay for it all, so the couple will need to budget to ensure that they are capable of meeting all the required costs.

With that in mind you can now consider replacing the traditional diamond with CZ engagement rings, which might not have the prestige of the real thing, but they look just as good to the untrained eye.

If you are unfamiliar with CZ rings, all you need to know is that they are a lab created version of the diamond that can only be told apart from the real thing by a jeweller. That’s why more people than ever are willing to use this imitation gemstone for an engagement ring.

In the past they weren’t quite as perfect as they are today and it was quite easy to tell the difference between the real and the fake. The only thing you have to be aware of is that these gemstones don’e age are well as diamonds, which will always look as good as the day you bought them due to how hard they are. With a cubic zirconia ring you will have to take a little care to ensure that they don’t loose their sparkle. If you can do that then you will never regret all that money you save when you decide to buy one instead of a diamond.
