Gutter Cleaning Methods

When it comes time to clean your gutters, there are several different gutter cleaning methods that you can use to get the job done. Some are more labor intensive than others are, but any one of them can work depending on how clean your gutters are. Probably the easiest method is to put a hose or a power washer nozzle at one end and let the high pressure water carry any debris out an down the downspouts. You can then pick up the debris on the ground and put it in garbage bags. This method works well if upon gutter inspection you see that the gutters are not too dirty or not completely blocked. If there is too much debris, the water could just spray the debris out over the sides of the gutters and make a big mess down the sides of your house. However, if there is just a little bit of dirt and debris in the bottom of the gutters, this method could work well.

Another method is to climb up on a ladder and scoop out the debris by hand. Make sure that you wear a pair of gloves because there could be molds in the debris and mold can make you sick. Using your hands can be slow going because you can only hold so much at a time. An alternative is to use some of the gutter cleaning tools that are available. For example, there are products called gutter scoops. These scoops are cylindrical with the top cut off so that you have a bottom and two curved sides to use as a scoop. When purchasing your gutter scoop make sure that it is small enough to fit inside your gutters, but large enough to hold lots of debris at a time.

Another thing that makes gutter cleaning move slowly is the fact that you need to keep getting off the ladder and moving it every few feet. One method you can use to speed things up is use scaffolding.
