How Do You Get Non Prescription Colored Contacts?

February 21, 2010 by GuestPoster

Currently if you are residing in the United States it is actually not legal to obtain any kind of contacts which need to be placed directly onto the eye without an actual prescription from a health professional. This also counts for colored contacts which are natural contacts and serve no actual purpose but as a beauty product to enhance or change the overall color of the eye.

Why do I need a prescription for contacts in the United States? Can I get colored contacts without prescription?

After a significant amount of incidents relating to eye injuries from using products which are applied directly onto the eye, the FDA decided to create a consumer alert in regards to the high risk level of blindness and general eye injuries which could happen simply from blinking the eye while a contact is in place. This is due to the fact that these contacts were being sold by common stores around the United States without a professional teaching these purchasers the correct methods of safely and correctly placing a contact over the eye.

As of the year 2005 it was passed that no contact lens may legally be purchased or sold from anyone who was not licensed by that state to be carrying and selling contacts without proper professional eye care training in a college or similar to college environment.

How to know what contact type is right

The condition of your eyes, along with the general size of your pupil will be considered by a professional when determining the type of contact which will suit your needs. There are also different color types of contacts for different effects which change or dramatize your eye color, be sure to mention the desired results you wish a colored contact to have on your current eye color to make sure you are not prescribed the wrong color or color type.

If you notice that a store near you if you reside in the United States are selling colored contacts such as a convenience store, do not purchase the products because more than likely the selling and carrying of that product is neither licensed nor legal and should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.
