If you are certain that you have no heart diseases, conditions or chest problems but you still experience chest pains, it is most likely GERD, or acid reflux. GERD stands for Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder and happens when there acid flowing into the esophagus from the stomach. The main cause of this condition may be the weakening of the diaphragm muscles that are supposed to allow the movement of food only one way into the stomach and instead allow the acid to be sipped up into the throat. This condition affects both men and women, young and old. We will look at a number of symptoms of acid reflux in women and how best to deal with the problem.

For years, many women have silently suffered from acid refluxes. More than fifty percent of women suffer from recurrent acid refluxes, a condition that is even harder to avoid and more challenging to deal with especially when one is pregnant. Statistics show that more than 20 percent of women who suffer this condition during pregnancy exhibit symptoms more during the first three months of pregnancy than any other period. The rate is 40 percent in the second trimester and 70 percent in the third. There may be other underlying causes of this condition other than the weakening of the diaphragm muscles and dietary causes including weight gain and being overweight and improper eating habits.

Once it is deduced what the problem is, it is time to implement an acid reflux remedy. To avoid this condition, a woman should stay away from acidic beverages and foods, huge meals, drinking too much fluid and eating near bed time. The upper part of the body must be lifted during sleeping to make one more comfortable and reduce the chances of acids sipping back up. Antacids will prove vital in quelling the acidity in the stomach and dealing with other side effects that come with this condition.
