A person who treats and prevents diseases that affect the teeth, gums and the mouth is called a dentist. For someone to become a dentist he/she must attain a Degree of Dental Surgery commonly put as DDS. To qualify to be a dentist one has to go through several important steps. One should maintain good grades in high school specifically in the subjects that are required in the dentist field. The important subjects that one should maintain high grads include physics, biology, chemistry as well as mathematics and also health courses.
One should also enroll in a pre-dental program in a college to emphasize on these subjects. These colleges should be applied for before the deadline date. While attending these colleges the grades for these subjects should also be maintained at a high level. Contacting the American Dental Association should be the next step to get a list of the accredited dental schools by the Commission on Dental Association. Dental school is dived in two parts of four years with the first two years basically dealing with class and lab courses and the final two are to be spent in clinics but under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
Requirements for each dental school vary and it is better if one went through each of them to be positive he/she qualifies. Sitting for a Dental Admissions Test (DAT) is imperative in order to be admitted o a dental school. The results that one gets in this test plus the science average as well as the overall grade point average will be required to get in a dental school. In some cases one will have to have recommendations to get in a dental school. After completion of medical school one can proceed to get a license to practice with some states requiring individuals to sit for additional tests.
I recommend you go through the article once again to fully understand how to become a dentist. If you have followed them to the T, you are on your way to a successful dental career.
