You can use area rugs in all kinds of ways. They add color to your floor. They add warmth and comfort. But you can also have fun with them when you decorating especially when they have an interesting pattern like zebra print rugs.
Zebra rugs have such a striking black and white design that they tend to make an impression on visitors as soon as they walk into a room so you can make the most of that by keeping up the level of interest with other unusual items. Here are some examples of themes you could create with your rug as inspiration.
You could create a distinctive look of the world traveler in your living room by adding objects of African origin (or which look as if they come out of Africa) to your room. For example, some naive carvings of giraffes in wood, a tribal mask or wall hanging on your walls and some African print fabrics for cushions and curtains will bring your theme alive. There are stores specializing in African artwork to help you along, if you have not just returned from an African safari, laden with items.
In a child’s room, you could use the use the zebra print simply as an unusual pattern. You will find at least one designer who has created a whole lot of accessories in a zebra print edged in hot pink but you could make your own combination with some zebra themed accessories and your child’s favorite color. In this case do not add too much of the zebra pattern as it could be overwhelming and make the room so busy that your child does not get to sleep! Choose just two or three items along with your floor rug to create the theme.
Use a zebra print rug in the bathroom and you could create a jungle theme there. (Even though zebras are not from the jungle, it seems to work!) Use some large green foliage in pots, colonial window shutters and one or two pieces of African pottery along with your bath rug and you are done.
