Wedding Speech Checklist
December 6, 2009 by GuestPoster
The wedding day has arrived, you are happy that your speech is well prepared and all that is left to do now is perform your speech.
Here’s a checklist of things you should do to ensure your wedding speech goes flawlessly.
Multiple Copies of Cue Cards
Create 2 (or more) copies of your speech and give the backup copies to a trusted person the night before the wedding.
In the unlikely event that your set of prompt cards is forgotten or damaged, you will have a backup set available on the day. For many the prompt cards act as their crutch during the speech, something they can fall back on and in some case prevent wild hand gestures or fidgeting.
Ensure You Are Comfortable With Your Props
If you have decided to use some form of visual aid during your speech, make sure you are comfortable handling them and know how to make them work.
Like any presentation, you do not want to be hampered by “technical difficulties” which will interrupt your speeches flow and lose the audiences’ attention.
Confirm the Running Order of the Speeches
Knowing when you will be speaking will prevent you being caught off guard when announced by the Master of Ceremonies on the day.
It is also a good idea to find out if the speeches are before or after dinner. If the speeches are after the meal you may want to eat a small piece of fruit, an apple or banana, to give a little boost of energy for your speech. You’ll probably find you haven’t had much time for food since breakfast and your energy levels may be a little low.
Avoid Drinking Too Much
My best advice would be, do not drink until after your speech. This may not be possible or desirable however you know you limits better than anyone and should pace yourself.
A wedding speech running on Dutch courage will not travel far.
You may want to take a glass of water for every other drink, or perhaps just say no to a few people who offer. I’m sure they’ll understand. They do want to buy you a drink but they also don’t want to see you make a fool of yourself in your speech.
These are a few things that will help your wedding day and wedding speech run a little smoother.
Do not worry, your wedding speech will be a success and you will wonder what all the fuss was about after you deliver your awesome toast.
